Artichoke Anniversary

A little over a year ago I posted about the grand artichoke plans for the year (the original post was here).

One year later to the day from that post, the plant that was sheltered in the hoop house all winter produced its first artichoke.

Woot.

There are two more on this plant right now, and the smaller plant closer to the house has 4 buds developing.

It can be done; don’t be afraid to try.

    I really don’t like Artichokes. All that bother for that little bit that you dip in the butter. Not for me. Nice looking plants though.

    That is pretty darn good for this time of year. Normally (and this is ideal for a zone 2 or 3 type area) you can just ignore them over the winter. They will freeze to the ground, and resprout the next year for a fall yield.

    They’re good to eat, but they also look good in a floral arrangement. Use them to decorate your table, then afterwards eat them.
